Keep your digitised memories safe - no passwords, no software, no cloud, no worries, just three secure physical backups managed for you.
Scan My Photo offers an offline backup service for your digitised photos, negatives, slides, and videos that exceeds the 3-2-1 Backup Rule. Secure Album Backup is designed for individuals who want to safeguard their digital copies without the hassle of faulty hard drives, corrupted or lost USB drives, cloud backup passwords, complicated software, or the risks of fire, flood, and theft. Scan My Photo manages everything for you.
Here’s How Secure Album Backup Works
Traditionally, Scan My Photo digitises your photos, negatives, slides, and videos. You can download the scans from Dropbox within 30 days or purchase a USB flash drive containing them. Securing your digital copies is entirely your responsibility, which is fine if you have the IT skills to keep the copies safe. If you're not as confident and prefer a fully managed backup, the Secure Album Backup for your scans is a great option.
When you purchase the Secure Album Backup, this is what you get:
- Your scans are copied 3 times, fulfilling the 3 copies in the 3-2-1 Backup Rule.
- The 3 copies are stored on 3 different media types. The 3-2-1 Rule utilises only 2 different media types (i.e., the 2 in the 3-2-1 Backup Rule), but we go even further by offering 3 media types for even greater security. The 3 media types provided are:
- Blu-ray disc: the most reliable and durable option for long-term, "cold" archival storage. Write-once archival-grade Blu-ray discs, which are immune to viruses and accidental deletion and can potentially last for 50-200 years.
- HDD (Hard Disk Drive): a proven mechanical solution for long-term digital storage. While more vulnerable to mechanical wear, our drives are stored appropriately and undergo quarterly integrity checks.
- SSD (Solid State Drive): fast, silent, and shock-resistant, SSDs store data using flash memory with no moving parts. This makes them ideal for off-site storage where durability and rapid recovery are key. Though SSDs have a limited write lifespan, they're exceptionally stable for read-heavy archival use.
- The Blu-ray Disc and HDD are stored in a fire and flood-proof safe at our Caboolture, Queensland premises, while the SSD is stored in another fire and flood-proof safe in Newcastle, New South Wales. The off-site backup in Newcastle fulfils the 1 in the 3-2-1 Backup Rule.
Secure Album Backup goes beyond the 3-2-1 Backup Rule with an extra media format, so it follows the 3-3-1 Backup Rule. By keeping a copy of the scans on a USB Flash Drive yourself, you would be following the 4-4-2 Backup Rule! Now that’s safe!

* Prices will increase over time, just like everything else, but I will only increase them if necessary. Any increases will only occur on the next yearly subscription cycle.
How Do I Sign Up?
Secure Album Backup is only available to customers who have had their photos, slides, negatives, or videos digitised with Scan My Photo. Near the end of the free 30-day storage on Dropbox, Marc will contact you to ask if you would like to subscribe.
What Happens If I Unsubscribe?
I would hate to see you go, but I understand that circumstances change. When you unsubscribe, I will send you the Blu-ray disc for you to keep, and the Secure Album Backup will continue until the end of the contracted period.
